Compare

Optimizely alternatives. Ranked by what ecommerce brands run.

Other than Optimizely, the testing tools ecommerce brands run most are AB Tasty, VWO and Dynamic Yield. Which one fits depends on what you need: an enterprise suite, a Shopify app, an open-source tool, or personalisation first.

How to read this

  • Rank is each tool's place in the overall ranking of testing and personalisation tools seen on ecommerce sites, where Optimizely ranks first. The rounded shares are in the market share report; the full list, with profiles, is in the A/B testing tools guide.
  • Each line sticks to what the vendor publishes about its own product. It is not a score.
  • The sample is brands in the ABSee record — mostly mid-to-large ecommerce, weighted to fashion and to Europe; only tools that load in the browser are visible, so server-side testing is undercounted.

Disclosure: ABSee is not a testing tool and takes no affiliate fees. ABSee is experimentation intelligence for ecommerce: a record of real experiments run by 1,150+ brands, with the page before, the version tested, and whether it was kept. The same public visits show which testing tools each site loads.

Optimizely sells experimentation as part of a wider platform that also includes a content management system, personalisation, feature management and Opal, its AI agent platform. Its own MCP server, which lets an assistant work with your experiments, needs Opal enabled on the account. Teams looking elsewhere usually want one of four things instead.

Which fits, by need

An enterprise suite

AB Tasty (ranks second, very common) and VWO (ranks third, common) now share an owner, Wingify, which sells experimentation, personalisation, analytics and feature management together. Adobe Target (ranks sixth, common) is the testing tool in Adobe Experience Cloud, which matters if Adobe Analytics is already in your contract. Kameleoon (ranks eighth, common) puts experimentation and feature management on one platform for marketing, product and engineering teams.

Shopify-native

Intelligems (ranks number 9, occasional) tests prices, offers, shipping and content on Shopify. Shoplift (rare in the record) calls itself a CRO platform built for Shopify and builds tests in the Shopify theme customiser. Both fit a store whose questions are about the store itself: what to charge, where to set free shipping, which template to use.

Open-source or warehouse-native

GrowthBook (ranks number 10, occasional) is open source and reads results from your own data warehouse; it can be self-hosted. Statsig (rare in the record), part of Amplitude since May 2026, offers experimentation, feature flags, analytics and session replay. Eppo is now Datadog Experiments (rare in the record), with analysis in the warehouse. These suit engineering-led teams, and because much of their testing runs on the server, the browser undercounts them.

Personalisation-led

Dynamic Yield (ranks fourth, common), owned by Mastercard, and Monetate (ranks fifth, common), which acquired the testing platform SiteSpect in 2025, both lead with personalisation and recommendations, with testing inside. Salesforce Personalization (ranks number 11, occasional) fits brands whose customer data already lives in Salesforce.

If price transparency matters, Convert (ranks seventh, common) publishes its pricing; Optimizely and Wingify quote on request.

What changes when you switch

  • The code on the site. The old tool's script or SDK comes out and the new one goes in. Tests running at the time end.
  • Setup you rebuild. Goals, audiences, and links to analytics have to be set up again in the new tool.
  • Your history. Past results stay in the old tool. Export them before the contract ends.
  • A check before you trust it. Many teams run an A/A test first — the same page in both arms — to confirm the new tool splits traffic and counts conversions cleanly.

Whichever tool you pick, it runs the test; it does not tell you which test to run. ABSee shows what other brands already tested on the same page, and whether they kept it, inside Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini.

Questions

What is the most common alternative to Optimizely?

Among ecommerce brands in the ABSee record, the most-run testing tools other than Optimizely are AB Tasty, VWO and Dynamic Yield. Optimizely itself ranks first. That is adoption, not a verdict on which is better for you.

Are AB Tasty and VWO still separate companies?

No. AB Tasty and VWO have combined under the Wingify brand, and both of their websites now lead to wingify.com. If you want a different vendor rather than a different product, count them as one.

Is there an open-source alternative to Optimizely?

GrowthBook is open source and warehouse-native, meaning it reads results from your own data warehouse (ranks number 10, occasional). It suits teams that run experiments in code.

What replaced Google Optimize?

Google closed Optimize on 30 September 2023. No single tool replaced it; former users moved to the platforms on this page and others that connect to Google Analytics 4.

Is this ranking paid for?

No. ABSee is not a testing tool and takes no affiliate fees. Tools are ranked by how often they are seen on real ecommerce sites.
