How to read this
- Every cell in the table comes from the vendor's own website or documentation, in its own terms. Where a cell is short, that is how the vendor puts it, not a judgement.
- Adoption is each tool's place among the testing and personalisation tools seen on ecommerce sites, with a band. The rounded shares are in the market share report.
- The sample is brands in the ABSee record — mostly mid-to-large ecommerce, weighted to fashion and to Europe; only tools that load in the browser are visible, so server-side testing is undercounted.
Disclosure: ABSee is not a testing tool and takes no affiliate fees. ABSee is experimentation intelligence for ecommerce: a record of real experiments run by 1,150+ brands, with the page before, the version tested, and whether it was kept.
Where they overlap, where they differ
Overlap. Both run A/B tests on web pages from a visual editor, run server-side tests and feature flags through SDKs, personalise pages for different audiences, and publish an MCP server. Both price on request.
Optimizely sells experimentation as one part of a digital experience platform that also includes a content management system. Its AI agents plan, run and report on experiments, and its Experimentation MCP server works through Opal, its agent platform.
VWO is now one product line of Wingify, the brand VWO and AB Tasty now share. Wingify bundles behaviour analytics — heatmaps, session recordings, funnels and surveys — alongside testing, and adds commerce and customer-engagement suites. Its AI is called Wingz AI.
What ecommerce brands run
In the ABSee record, Optimizely ranks first (very common) and VWO ranks third (common) among the testing and personalisation tools ecommerce brands load. AB Tasty, now under the same owner as VWO, ranks second (very common). Some brands run more than one tool, so these are not either-or counts.

How to choose
- If you are building on Optimizely's CMS, or want testing and content in one contract, Optimizely keeps them together.
- If your team wants testing and behaviour analytics in one place — heatmaps and recordings next to test results — Wingify bundles them.
- If engineers run most tests, both have SDKs and feature flags; compare the SDKs for your languages and where results are analysed.
- If you want an assistant to work with your tests, check what each MCP server covers: Optimizely's needs Opal; Wingify's is built for feature experimentation.
- If neither fits, the Optimizely and VWO alternatives pages group the other options by need.
Either tool runs the test; neither tells you which test to run. ABSee shows what other brands already tested on the same page, and whether they kept it, inside Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini.
Questions
Is Optimizely or VWO better?
Neither, in general. They overlap on web testing, personalisation and feature management. Optimizely sells testing inside a wider platform with a CMS and an AI agent platform; Wingify, which now sells VWO, bundles behaviour analytics such as heatmaps and session recordings. The fit depends on your team and stack.
Which is more common among ecommerce brands?
Optimizely. In the ABSee record it ranks first (very common) and VWO ranks third (common). The rounded shares are in the experimentation platform market share report.
What about AB Tasty?
AB Tasty and VWO have combined under the Wingify brand, so AB Tasty is now VWO's sibling rather than a third vendor. AB Tasty on its own ranks second (very common) in the ABSee record.
Do Optimizely and VWO publish their prices?
No. Optimizely says every plan is individually packaged; Wingify lists Growth, Pro and Enterprise plans, each through a demo.
Can I connect either to Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini?
Both publish MCP servers, the standard way to connect a tool to an AI assistant. Optimizely's Experimentation MCP server needs Opal enabled; Wingify's covers feature experimentation from AI coding tools. ABSee connects the same way and adds what other brands tested.
